I thought this was an enjoyable read it was uplifting had good strong characters and had a happy ending Its the perfect holiday read Awesome read and awesome Different Class debut novel I loved the characters from the very first chapter and enjoyed the journey to their HEA Greatialogue Great plot Great concept A witty fun and enjoyable read Looking forward to the next book now Harper and Luke had chemistry for sure Fixed Up has the makings of a very good romance It s cute sexy and short I m thinking that may have been the problem it felt unfinished That was The Essential Good Food Guide disappointing when a story has uite a bit going for it I recieved an ARC of Fixed up by Maddie Jane in exchange for an honest review This new girl on the block Maddie Jane has a fresh witty writing style that is light and refreshing The story set in NZ revolves around DIY business owner Harper and hunky hero Luke Luke has a penchant for rescuing the women in his life and Harper is fiercely independent so when she literally falls into his arms the resultant sparks fly Superbly written Fixed Up is a perfect holiday read Fun and breezy with laugh out loud moments Try this new authorI look forward to from her This review was originally posted on Michelle K Pickett s blog These Words Tell a StoryI really liked the concept of Fixed Up by Maddie Jane It s the author sebut and Textbook of Wisdom described as a romantic comedy It s romantic but I wouldn t list it as a comedy which isn t necessarily a bad thing unless a reader is looking specifically for a ROMCOM Then they might beisappointed in the lack of humorous elements That being said I In Defence of Dogs don t think itisappoints as a romance The DIY angle was a uniue one at least to me I liked that it focused on female DIY ers We females are often the main ecorators organizers and so forth of our home Of course there are exceptions to that but I m speaking in generalities So it makes sense that there is a market for this emographic and that women would want to be practiced in some forms of DIY But The City in Mind don t think for a second this is a book about DIY No Itoes use DIY as a story element but the main focus of the story is the romance between Harper and Luke Harper is Revenge (The Red Ledger driven and focused on her business DIY Divas Luke while a successful construction company owner is looking for a lasting relationship He s committed to his company but itoesn t own him The romance is sweet and I No One Wants You definitely rooted for the couple to get together The authorid a good job of writing well eveloped main characters Both Harper and Luke had flaws They came into the romance with preconceived ideas of who they were who the other person was and the role that played into their budding romance I had a the role that played into their budding romance I had a problem with Harper s attitude at the beginning of the book but her character grew throughout the story And by the end I had a better understanding of her beliefs and motivations and I grew to like her character My biggest issue was the lack of well thought out secondary characters There were other characters sprinkled throughout the book like Sheila and Annie But they idn t have any teeth They were background noise than meaningful participants in the story Mechanics were good There were a few punctuation issues that bugged me throughout but nothing that really interfered with my enjoyment of the story I will say this the author lives in New Zealand and that is where the story is set So American readers might be baffled by some of the slang used Although it isn t anything that can t be figured out Bottom Line I enjoyed Fixed Up It s a short uick read A sweet love story that while not laugh out loud funny will leave a satisfied smile on your face I recommend it Read of my reviews inlcuding this one on Michelle K Pickett s blog These Words Tell a Story I loved this fast paced witty story featuring two flawed but likable characters who are hopelessly attracted to each other but hopelessly incompatible in eual measures in true rom com style The DIY Divas angle was original and fun Luke Cotton and Harper Cassidy were such believable characters I felt like they were people I knew and when they finally sort out their problems and get it together I found myself smiling with satisfaction Highly recommended Fixed Up is a steaming hot Penguins Poems for Life d but romance from New Zealand author Maddie JaneHarper Cassidy is trying to make name for herself in the DIY business while smashing through the glass barrier that says women can t be as handy as men Harper is trying to get DIY Divas off the ground and the last thing she expected was to literally fall in the arms of the hunky Luke Colton a man who epitomises every thing she is striving against and yet she can t stop her body s radical reaction to the smouldering hot tradie before herLuke Colton of Colton Construction never expected the woman of hisreams to fall into his #arms and yet she id Pity that s the only thing that #and yet she id Pity that s the only thing that been easy to come by in the relationship Right from the get go Luke knew Harper was the one for him and he id everything right to get her only to have the one woman show knock him back at every tur. A fresh new voice in contemporary romance Maddie Jane ebuts her romantic comedy novel about a woman who knows how to fix things and the man who wants to convince her that DIY is fun with two Toppling from her very high heels into Luke Colton’s arms is not the impression Harper Cassidy likes to make Sh. ,
N Lucky for Luke he Divine Beauty doesn t give up easily because his fight to win over Harper isn t going to be easy or smooth sailing but is he willing to go theistance at the end of the Fear and Loathing at Rolling Stone dayI got sucked into this narrative from the very first page In fact I think Harper and Luke s unconventional meeting where she literally falls head over heels off a ladder into his open arms is one of the books strongest scene and my favourite It was just so visual and hilarious that I literally saw it play out before my eyes You also got this great sense of character and what the story is going to be like right away and you knew you were in good hands with this author I swear I was kind ofancing in my head going this is going to be awesome Unfortunately the constant back and forward and the characters sheer stubbornness eventually wore me Down to the Sea in Ships down as the book progressed I got that Harper was a strong independent women and heard her roar I knew that Luke was used to looking after people But the constant repetition sadly started to irk me as a reader and the characters slowly became less interesting and less go getting and whiny Io believe part of this was part of my own reaction to the fantastic opening of the book where I just Wife by Wednesday (The Weekday Brides, dived in to the book so gang ho and placed potentially too high and unrealistic expectations on the book That said Iid still really enjoy the narrative and the sexual chemistry between the two leads was off the chartsAs I mentioned above there are some super cute scenes in this narrative and I really enjoyed most of Harper and Luke s interactions The first meeting was superb clearly and the concert scene had the inner romantic in me sighing like the hopeless romantic I am In terms of personal tastes there was a lot of focus on the physical nature of their attraction and relationship throughout the narrative and I would have preferred some of the type of scenes mentioned above just to get in their head space and relationship zone a bit I o understand that Harper s prickly can t go there nature would have hindered that Please note that although it s not fade to black which oesn t bother me this book is by no means a play by play either and at the end of the Chain of Fire day it is a romance narrative so the physical relationship is just as important as the emotion oneI uite enjoyed the uniue nature of the narrative We have Harper the female DIY ueen who is striving against gender perceptions and trying hard to give women back their confidence too this kind of stuff for themselves go Harper and then there s Luke the over protective successful construction guru I guess who oesn t mean too but constantly takes over because he wants to help and get #things one to spare his loved ones even when they argue they #done to spare his loved ones even when they argue they than capable of oing
it themselves I love the contrast and the ilemma that these two propose going up against eachthemselves I love the contrast and the ilemma that these two propose going up against each I also LOVE the DIY Diva classes and would totally o some of them if there were any close to me Seriously I m not a handy man type of woman and constantly rely on my Dad to help me fix and Kuduz do that kind of stuff It would be awesome to have that independence confidence and freedom that Harper embodies and preachesI loved the setting of this novel as I can count the number of novels I ve read set in New Zealand on one hand and still have fingers left spare and yet I think Maddie Jane perhapsid herself a bit of a isservice by not including about the setting into the narrative itself I understand that editors and perhaps even Escape had something to o with this but I would have liked to see of the New Zealand culture or accent or even the landscape
in the book As is it reads rather general location wise which can be considered a good thing too I guess as readers from all around the world can imagine the happenings of the narrative taking place in their own backyardsWhile there s a few things that work against this novel for me personally I think it comes own to the overall size of the narrative and how it was semi suished into such a small package The book s small and reads most of the time uickly and effortlessly The ending seemed rushed and there were things there that I wanted to see play out and where their relationship could have gone had it been given time in the bookAnd lastly although this narrative wasn t a five star rating for me I really enjoyed Maddie Jane s writing style Hands own Maddie Jane The Taste of Ashes dominates when it comes toialogue Seriously this woman is the natural Camellia (Ellie, dialogue ueen I also loved the way she was able to entwine the serious aspects of this book abandonment isolation insecurities and self perception with the fun and flirty the sexual chemistry the witty and snappy banter handsown that chainsaw line me laughing so hard out loud and the just plain funny to create this really natural real life balance that wasn t all sunshine and roses but also not all gloom and oom I think Maddie Jane really showed her talent and craftsmanship there as this wouldn t have been an easy feat to pull offFixed Up might by Maddie Jane s but but E is strong independent and on a personal mission to teach DIY skills to women and he is all wrong – The Highwayman (Victorian Rebels, determined to get involvedetermined to help her and China: la edad de la ambicin (Ensayo poltico) determined to mess with her self control and self imposed single lifestyle Harper has been than clear that her planson’t include him but there?. ,Mentioned In The Book As
